Free "Rhino & Grasshopper for Architects" online workshop (by HowToRhino) - June 6-16, 2022

If you’re an architect or a designer and you have a strong interest in learning Rhino, Grasshopper, and Rhino.Inside Revit specifically for architecture, HowToRhino will host a workshop called Rhino & Grasshopper for Architects from June 6 to 16, 2022.

The focus of this workshop will focus on how to use Rhino efficiently when modeling basic and more organic and fluid geometries, how to start using Grasshopper from scratch with a beginner-friendly learning approach, and how to understand the logic behind parametric modeling.

Another big topic will be the newest tech from McNeel called Rhino.Inside Revit, and how to make a seamless connection between parametric designs in Grasshopper with BIM capabilities in Revit. You’ll learn how to fuse the project's design phase from Rhino and Grasshopper with the construction phase in Revit.

The workshop is held by Dusan and Lazar, architects from Serbia and founders of the HowToRhino platform that helps architects learn how to use Rhino and Grasshopper for Architecture.

There will be four workshop videos, four live streams, and two Q&A sessions.

The workshop will be online. It is free, but there are limited seats available, so make sure you register soon.

Automated Automata V1.0 Webinar by DesignMorphine

June 25, 2022, from 3 PM to 8 PM UTC
Online Webinar

Automated Automata V1.0 will explore basic to intermediate level cellular automata in 1D, 2D, 2.5D, and 3D workflow with C# and Grasshopper. These workflows lay the groundwork for using various cellular automata for architectural, engineering, or artistic purposes.

This course will start with learning what a cellular automaton is, how they look in various dimensions, and the basic “algorithm” that describes every type of cellular automata. We will then use C# inside Grasshopper to code the classic elementary (1D) automata, examine how to improve the code to achieve an incredibly massive array of possible results, and convert the output values to closed curve loops. Next, we will move on to implementing 2D and 2.5D cellular automata in a generic way that allows for custom rules, including the famous Game Of Life. The course will finish by taking the final step into 3D, where we will code a true 3D cellular automaton that looks at its 26 neighboring cells. Students will be able to export their results in a various forms, including vectors for laser cutting or plotting, bitmap images, and 3D voxel models suitable for rendering or 3D printing. This course will be 80% C# coding.

Since 1994 Datakit has facilitated the exchange of 2D and 3D data for users and developers of CAD, CAD/CAM, 3D visualization, simulation, metrology, and modeling applications. The latest version of CrossManager (Datakit software for file-to-file conversion of most 3D and 2D formats) and CrossCad/Ware (reading and writing libs for 2D and 3D software editors) improve once the interoperability between different standard and native formats.

Datakit conversion libraries V2022.1 bring new reading functionalities for Inventor, OBJ, Revit. They also add CATIA V5 writing functionalities.

Software editors integrating release 2022.1 of Datakit SDK will now be able to:
  • Read the predefined views, as well as the FDT (PMI) from the Inventor assembly files
  • Read the alpha channel of colors (transparency) from OBJ 3D and Rhino.
  • Write in CATIA V5 the Views named by the users.

Datakit is constantly upgrading its SDK to remain compatible with the latest versions from publishers, as well as with their previous versions.

Datakit V2022.1 adds new versions and now makes it possible to:

  • Read JT files up to version 10.7

Hull Shape Assistant plugin in open beta

Hull Shape Assistant (HSA) is a new Rhino plugin providing shape modeling assistance tools focused on design, fairing, and reverse engineering.

HSA’s geometry is composed of parts that may be surfaces or a set of curves prepared for lofting a surface. HSA also accepts as an input already existing polysurfaces in one part, with no specific option to modify it.

Functionality:

  • Automatic joining and trimming of parts, according to defined limiting top, transom, or skeg shape
  • Automatic generation of flat side and flat bottom
  • Real-time information regarding distance from reference geometry, which can be points clouds, curves, meshes, surfaces or polysurfaces
  • Real-time generation of sections, buttocks and waterlines
  • Simplified control over surface curvature and zebra analysis
  • Real-time information regarding ship hydrostatic parameters – HSA will try to fill small gaps in imperfect shape if the input is non-watertight
  • Simple clipping over length
  • Simple compact panel for control of plugin functionality

Currently, HSA supports only symmetric hull shapes.
