Online training: Maritime Hull Design and Fairing - New editions in February and March 2026

Online Training - Maritime Hull Design and Fairing
New editions in February and March 2026

Rapid Hull Modeling for Ships / Yachts / Workboats / Multihulls

Class-A Fairing – Final Design – Fairing for Production – Hull Optimization – Reverse Engineering – Hull from GA/ Lines-Plan – Advanced Analysis – Modeling Strategies – Developable Hulls

Rhino enables accurate, flexible, and fair vessel hull design with the Rapid Hull Modeling Methodology.

Naval architect Gerard Petersen from RhinoCentre developed this method in collaboration with other professionals in the marine industry. After years of providing training and services to leading companies in the marine industry worldwide, RhinoCentre developed three unique training modules to guide you in modeling, fairing, and reverse engineering vessel hull shapes.

Three training modules are covered in four two-hour live training sessions. Between the live sessions, you practice the exercises as self-study with the instructional videos and written-out exercises.

Now available: The much-anticipated Orca3D Version 3

Orca3D Version 3 is compatible with Rhino 7 and 8.

If you currently use Orca3D Version 1 or 2, upgrade to Orca3D Version 3 to be compatible with Rhino 8.

Orca3D's packaging has changed in Version 3. In prior versions of Orca3D, you could purchase Level 1 and Level 2, with Level 2 adding to the Level 1 functionality. In Version 3, instead, four modules are available and may be purchased in any combination.
  • Design: This includes the Hull Design and fairing and Basic Hydrostatics and stability features. It is equivalent to the previous Level 1.
  • Analysis: This includes the Speed/Power feature, the CFD interface, and the Weight & Cost feature. It is equivalent to the previous Level 2, except that it does not include the Level 1 functionality. The Analysis module may be purchased without the Design module.
  • Advanced Stability: Includes compartmentation and tank modeling, fluid and solid loads, unlimited load cases, free surface effects, intact and damaged stability with stability criteria evaluation, and tank tables. This is a major new module.
  • Orca3D Marine CFD: Requires the Analysis module as a prerequisite.

Watch a 3-minute video highlighting the features of Orca3D Version 3.

Hull Shape Assistant plugin in open beta

Hull Shape Assistant (HSA) is a new Rhino plugin providing shape modeling assistance tools focused on design, fairing, and reverse engineering.

HSA’s geometry is composed of parts that may be surfaces or a set of curves prepared for lofting a surface. HSA also accepts as an input already existing polysurfaces in one part, with no specific option to modify it.

Functionality:

  • Automatic joining and trimming of parts, according to defined limiting top, transom, or skeg shape
  • Automatic generation of flat side and flat bottom
  • Real-time information regarding distance from reference geometry, which can be points clouds, curves, meshes, surfaces or polysurfaces
  • Real-time generation of sections, buttocks and waterlines
  • Simplified control over surface curvature and zebra analysis
  • Real-time information regarding ship hydrostatic parameters – HSA will try to fill small gaps in imperfect shape if the input is non-watertight
  • Simple clipping over length
  • Simple compact panel for control of plugin functionality

Currently, HSA supports only symmetric hull shapes.
