Termite for Rhino, total station interface

The Termite plugin for Rhinoceros 4 is a unique tool that enables realtime transformation of total station data into 3D geometry. Termite allows on-the-fly total station relocation and reorientation.

Directed at architects and archaeologists in particular, Termite does away completely with interpretation of point clouds and manual stitching of separate files during post processing.

Termite is very much a dynamic work in progress, so comments, questions, and suggestions are warmly welcomed.

Rhino 4 SR9 Hot Fix 1 Released

Symptom:
After installing Rhino 4 SR9, Rhino is unable to open SOLIDWORKS  part and assembly files.

Solution:
Users experiencing this problem should download Rhino 4 SR9 Hot Fix 1.

More information:
Two files (msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll) were not properly installed in the same folder as the SolidWorks import plugin. This hot fix installer copies msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll from the "Rhinoceros 4.0\System" folder into the "Rhinoceros 4.0\Plug-ins\Import_SolidWorks" folder.

The SR9 patch installer has also been update to include this fix. Installation of SR9 using the newest SR9 patch installer or SR9 CDs should not exhibit the problem listed above.

AA MakeLab 2011

AA MakeLab is an intensive, five-day program engaging in innovative architectural fabrication processes in collaboration with the AA’s London-based Digital Prototyping Lab. The aim is to explore the integration of digitally-driven fabrication technologies in the context of Hooke Park’s forestry and workshop resources.

At the core of the program are design-and-build strategies developed through prototyping and the construction of 1:1-scale structures, and the application of new fabrication techniques to the particular materials and sites available at Hooke Park and its surrounding woodland. Specific technologies unavailable on site can be made available in anticipation of particular areas of investigation.

Experimental structures will be made in small, workshop-led groups which will investigate topics connected to current research agendas within digital fabrication, using the latest advanced software and hardware applications, including Rhino, RhinoScript, and Grasshopper.

The program will consist of workshops, seminars, presentations, and tutorials led by experts from academia and industry, and will culminate in a symposium with invited specialists and experts on the final afternoon. Participants will be working in teams of between three and six people, in groups and roles balanced according to particular interests and ambitions.

Schedule and venue

The school runs from 4-8 April 2011. This is an intensive, workshop-based programme requiring full-time participation. The workshop will be hosted at Hooke Park (UK) and the surrounding 350 acre woodland.
