Rhino OS X - New Build

There is a new build available, Wenatchee 2009-06-24, with many new features, enhancements, and bug fixes with the main focus on new 2-d functionality.

Everyone is invited to download and use the OS X version of Rhino while it is in development.

Most of the core functionality has been ported from Windows and is very stable. There is still much to do to port the rest of the functionality and refine the interface. We don't expect the first commercial release to be ready for at least a year.

Don't worry if the build you are using is going to expire. New versions will be available every few weeks. There will be a newer one available before the expiration date.

Rhino 4.0 SR6 Release Candidate 2 Available

Rhino 4.0 Service Release 6 Release Candidate 2 is available for download.

This is pre-release software. If you are not comfortable running pre-release software, please do not download this build.
This release candidate has been tested by our internal testing staff and is believed to be stable, reliable, and suitable for use in production. As with all release candidates, however, there may be problems that we didn't uncover in our own testing. We expect several thousand people to download and test this Service Release and report any problems they have.

When we are satisfied that there are no major problems with this release, we'll release the Service Release officially.

Please report any crashes you experience using the McNeel Error Reporting dialog box that will appear. Report any other problems to our support team.

Bug Fixes:

  • Starting Rhino on Vista Improved: previous releases of Rhino 4.0 sometimes would only start when run as Administrator. SR6 should start without administrator permissions.

PanelingTools for Rhino 4.0 Updated

A new release of PanelingTools plug-in for Rhino 4.0 is available for download. New in this release:

  • New commands:
    • ptGridSurfaceDomain. It divides a surface by its UV domain. Divide method can be byNumber, byArcLength or byCordLength. There are options to select base point and change UV directions. The command also supports history.
    • ptPlanarLips to create variable offset of planar (unrolled) faces.
    • ptChanegeGridDensity. Helps increase and decrease grid density in U and V directions.
    • ptExtendGrid to extend a paneling grid by user-defined distance in U and V directions.

    • ptUnifiyFacesDirection (previously ptUnifyFacesNormal) has new options to adjust the faces U and V directions to match the base surface.
    • It is now possible to project paneling edges/faces in a user-defined direction. Use "PanelShape=Projected" in ptPanelGrid command

  • Bug fixes:
    • Few bug fixes and refinements to ptUnroll commands.
    • Fix and I/O crash bug.

1st RhinoScript Workshop in Dubai, June 12-14

Intro to Architectural Scripting Workshop
Dubai - June, 12-14

When CAD systems started to offer scripting abilities, design processes took a different path, one where designers not only can automate modeling operations, but also devise rules and embed logic in their exploration of form.

This workshop is built around the concept of calculating/computing design. Participants will learn how to think in algorithmic terms and express their design ideas in procedures. We will cover basics of programming and build our skills through an array of short exercises of various levels. So if you have no programming experience, this is the place to start.

The main vehicle for the workshop will be RhinoScript. RhinoScript proved to be the best platform out there to explore design-programming for beginners and experts.

  • Instructor: Maher El-Khaldi is a PhD researcher and a class instructor at Georgia Institute of Technology, Design Computing group. He received a Master of Science in Design and Computation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2007.
