Free Land Kit Lab Licenses for schools

 

LANDAU Design+Technology is offering free Land Kit Lab Licenses to accredited educational institutions. With a Lab License, schools receive access for up to 30 students.

This commitment to supporting the next generation of landscape thinkers and makers provides students with a hands-on way to explore terrain modeling, planting strategies, and site planning workflows in Rhino and Grasshopper.

If you’re part of an academic institution and have permission to administer software to students, request your Lab License and join a growing community of educators exploring the future of computational landscape design.

A Land Kit workshop 

May 9, 9 AM-12:30 PM EST

The workshop series will provide you with the techniques for detailed planting design using Land Kit. Learn how to implement a rules-based planting approach using various methods to consider all relevant environmental and design factors. Get comfortable with customizing Grasshopper scripts to expand your Land Kit planting capabilities beyond the reach of the Land Kit Workflows. Follow along and begin mastering the wide range of planting tools available in Land Kit!

Details

This 3.5-hour workshop session is divided into two main segments. The first and shorter segment will focus on understanding how the tools work using our new and improved planting workflow. The second segment will dive into more advanced parametric design concepts, showcasing purpose-built tools to set up your planting layout, design, and documentation, all within the Grasshopper scripting space. Some knowledge of Grasshopper is encouraged for this workshop.

Participants will be given exclusive access to presentation materials, live instructional demos, and interactive work time with direct assistance from the LANDAU team.

New landscape design plugin: Land Kit

LANDAU Design + Technology recently launched Land Kit,  a new Grasshopper plugin. It is beneficial for landscape design, but many applications exist for architects, ecologists, pattern makers, and more. 

Land Kit's customs tools make landscape design more efficient and intuitive while solving some of the trickier problems presented when using computational tools to design landscapes in 3D. 

Not only can it save time with a particular design, drafting, or modeling process, but it provides a platform to build your specific workflows. 

Land Kit is composed of three component libraries:

• Plant Kit is a powerful platform to make planting design more manageable and site-specific. Use analysis, data, and placement rules to guide the placement of individual plants while you focus on the big picture of the planting design and layout. By defining environments, areas, plants, and rules, Plant Kit help keep track of the complexity, helping to layout and visualize your planting design for output to CAD, Revit, or rendering in Rhino, Lumion, or Enscape.
• Use Topo Kit to create and change topographic features in the landscape. You can avoid the sticky problem of relying on elevated contours to generate and revise models. Design directly in 3D with the features that drive topography: walls, curbs, stairs, paths, spots, and maybe a contour or two. Analyze slope, elevation, or cut contours during the design process.
• Use the Paving Kit toolset to define simple paving zones with shapes. Add standard or custom patterns with paver dimensions and let Paving Kit draft repeat patterns, seams, coloration, and edge trimming.
