"Never So Far Away: Chapter 3" - Concept Art Book By Luigi Memola

"I began using Rhinoceros about 15 years ago, and it quickly became an integral part of my daily work as a designer. Whether it's for professional projects or during my free time, I rely on this powerful tool to bring the creations of my imagination to life.

Rhinoceros allows me to achieve an extraordinary level of precision, quality, and detail, making it the perfect software for a wide range of designs. From futuristic spaceships and rugged trucks to sleek catamarans and cutting-edge race cars, I've used Rhinoceros to craft vehicles and objects that inhabit a visionary yet believable future. Every line, surface, and contour in these designs is carefully considered, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible both in the real world and in my imagined universe.

Never So Far Away: Chapter 3 is the culmination of years of work, passion, and creativity. In this concept art book, you'll find a selection of my most ambitious designs, all presented with high-quality visuals that showcase both the technical complexity and imaginative vision behind each project. This chapter focuses on a universe where advanced technology meets the human drive for exploration, speed, and innovation, reflecting the essence of what I aim to convey as a designer.

With a foreword by the legendary Lorin Wood and special support from the incredible Christian Grajewski, this is a must-have for all sci-fi and digital art enthusiasts!

I’m excited to finally share these creations with you and invite you to explore the worlds and vehicles I’ve built—where the future feels just within reach, yet never so far away."

World Expanded / NFTS and Rendering - The new book by Tobias Eder (in German)

The German sculptor Tobias Eder has realized his virtual art in digital space since 2009 using McNeel's Rhino software. Since then, a large number of artworks have been created with Rhino.

His book, published in November 2023, comprises 400 pages with numerous illustrations and provides a deep insight into Eder's digital world. It includes futuristic spaces, digitally created sculptures, which are often realized using 3D printing, and even the Old Synagogue in Freiburg, which was cast in bronze based on his digital model and is now installed in front of the University Library in Freiburg. Text contributions in the book reflect the new art in digital space, and the art historian Wolfgang Ullrich focuses on the NFTs created by Eder, which are also shown in the book.

Tobias Eder was born in 1966 in Rheinfelden/Baden. He studied sculpture at the art academies in Karlsruhe and Munich and now lives and works in Freiburg im Breisgau. With Rhino, he designs both profane and sacred spaces and in some cases their new contemporary furnishings.

New Book discusses generative evolutionary fashion design for sustainability using Rhino

Accelerating Sustainability in Fashion, Clothing & Textiles is a thirty-four-chapter book that collates leading-edge research and industry best practices to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ exploring the complex and interconnected issues surrounding sustainability in fashion, clothing, and textiles. The practical and digestible chapters include innovative examples and perspectives from different regions of the globe, addressing topics from policies to supply chain issues and materials innovation.

Chapter 31, Fashion Ex Machina: Human–Machine Collaboration to Support Sustainability through Customized Design and Production, written by Elizabeth Bigger et al., discusses transitions toward sustainable bespoke production for Industry 5.0, agile fashion system requirements, emerging processes, and human-machine collaboration.

Elizabeth’s work with generative garment design for sustainability is discussed using Grasshopper in Rhino. Parametric fashion patterns created in Grasshopper then use the generative evolutionary solver Galapagos for multi-objective optimization of the garment design. The fashion industry is a wicked problem because of the interdependent factors of garment design and production that create significant climate problems (6-10% of global emissions). Using Galapagos for multi-objective optimization solves many interdependent sustainable design issues at once in the design phase.

The book was edited by Professor Martin Charter, Dr. Bernice Pan, and Professor Sandy Black and is available from Rutledge Publishing UK.

Two new books for jewelry designers!

Dana Buscaglia has published two new books to demonstrate and teach using Rhinoceros 7.0 for the design and creation of jewelry modeling.

The first volume covers basic Rhino commands and the 2D project creation. The second volume covers basic Rhino commands and the 3D project creation. The chapters are in tutorial format with step-by-step instructions that gradually build a knowledge base, becoming more advanced in later chapters.

Dana Buscaglia’s 40+ years of experience in jewelry ranges over various segments of the jewelry industry. After designing and executing her line of contemporary jewelry for 13 years, Dana moved to a more commercial side and took design jobs at Jacmel Jewelry and then at Avon. Both experiences exposed Dana to the different worlds of jewelry design and mass production.

As outsourcing became important, involving the transmission of accurate product design and description to contractors worldwide, Dana became interested in Computer Aided Design to easily and accurately transmit drawings and layouts. She became adept at AutoCAD and then branched into Rhinoceros because of its ability to create both drafted 2D drawings and 3-dimensional models.

Dana’s design experience is an advantage when translating the work of other designers into technical drawings and layouts or 3-dimensional digital models for prototyping.

Dana has also become a licensed Rhino instructor and teaches Computer Aided Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

The books are available at Amazon, Lulu Publishing, Barnes & Nobles, and others.

New Rhino book: "Modelação Clássica e por Subdivisão em Rhinoceros 7"

João Monteiro has published a new book (in Portuguese): Modelação Clássica e por Subdivisão em Rhinoceros 7.

809 pages with the basics, classic NURBS modeling, and a second part dedicated to the new SubD tools.

While the book focuses on 3D modeling of objects, it also includes an introduction on obtaining photorealistic images from them using the available tools in Rhinoceros, as well as importing and modifying models created in other CAD programs. Most of the proposed exercises are based on reference images, on which the models are built, being available to download through a link presented in the text. The book was written based on the Windows version of Rhinoceros, but Mac users can also use it.
