Arion RHINO LIVE for Rhino 5

RHINO LIVE is a fully integrated version of Arion right into Rhinoceros 5. All the power of physically-based, unbiased and GPU accelerated rendering at your fingertips from your native Rhino environment.

RHINO LIVE tears down the obstacles that were common to previous unbiased renderers in terms of workflow. It brings the opportunity to work naturally and comfortably inside Rhino 5, and get the most cutting-edge quality and performance without changing your workflow a single bit.

RHINO LIVE is really fast and takes advantages of all the compatible hardware inside your computer.

With RHINO LIVE it is not necessary to export the scene data to a file or a stand-alone renderer, or to go back to the host app to make changes. RHINO LIVE is fully integrated in Rhinoceros and renders just like the native Rhinoceros engine, with a tremendously better speed and quality. Just by hitting the render button, RHINO LIVE will turn the scene into a physically-based digital photography.

The RandomControl LIVE plug-in supports Rhino 5 32 and 64bit.

Grasshopper online training by geometrydepth

Grasshopper Fundamental Online Training
2013 February 22-23 + assessment – 9:00-12:00 am CET / 9:00-12:00 am PST

This course is meant for every designer, engineer, and architect who wants a solid base of generative and parametric modeling within their Rhino workflow. During these two days and the last assessment session, we will explore and build structures in parametric space, embodied in geometrical entities (curves, surfaces) and using algorithmic patterns. Every step will be supported with exercises of gradually increasing complexity. You will learn how to work with geometrical associations and parameters. To master geometrical association – associativity between parts, dynamic association – geometric shapes are generated by following the logic connection between the part and the geometric constrain, parametric dimension, dynamic design process: in fewer words, we will nurture relational thinking.

Instructors: Ilaria Giardiello, Giulio Piacentino.

Neon 1.0 Beta 14 Now Available

Hi all!

There's a new Neon!

This build fixes a number of crash bugs and other small issues.  The general level of stability should be significantly improved over Beta 13.

A complete list of changes from Beta 13 are below

Features:
  • Baking resolution for decals is now determined by the texture simulation size.

Bug Fixes:
  • Bad meshes passed into Neon caused random crashing. Neon no longer accepts bad meshes as input.
  • Some meshes caused the bump tangent system to crash. This is now fixed.
  • Changing the number of passes while Neon was stopped caused a crash on restart when the Skylight was on.
  • Background problems with printing and view capture have been fixed.

Enjoy!

Propeller design with Rhino

Kiwi Feather Props Ltd have been using Rhino for production of their propellers for the last three years.

The earlier prop designs, such as the K3 model, took many years to create and produce. With the help of Rhino and modern production methods, the later designs, such as the K4 and K2, were built in under one year.

Rowan Blundell notes, "All of the propellers are multiple, intersecting helix surfaces, so really was a challenge initially to obtain nice joins!"

The props are first 3D-printed in ABS. Later they are cast in stainless.

SmartGeometry 2013 - Save these dates

sg2013 is shaping up to be a great event again this year. The focus is on transitioning computational design from the hard space of the ideal to the soft reality of an uncertain built environment.

sg2013 will be at The Bartlett in London April 15-20, 2013. The four-day workshop (April 15-18) and two-day conference (April 19-20) will follow the format of the highly successful preceding events.
