MatrixGold 3.9: The Performance Update

Lafayette, LA (5 May 2025) – Gemvision is excited to announce the release of the first of three major updates coming to MatrixGold Version 3 in 2025. The MatrixGold 3.9 update introduces powerful new features and enhancements that give users more control, speed, and efficiency. From refined parametric workflows to fully customizable quick commands, MatrixGold 3.9 is built to streamline the jewelry design process.

“The MatrixGold 3.9 update represents a significant step forward in our product development,” said Oriol Collelldemont, Product Director at Gemvision. “It’s built on feedback from our customers, whose insights continue to shape the software to better support their business needs.”

The major breakthrough in this update is the Dynamic Power Toggle, which lets users decide when to recalculate geometry. This is a game-changing feature for complex designs with multiple operations—it allows users to make all necessary edits first and recalculate only when they’re ready, saving time and system resources.

Some additional new tools include
  • Quick Commands: Enables users to create personalized tool layouts by organizing frequently used features into custom tabs, allowing faster access and a more streamlined workflow.
  • Static Surface Prong: Provides a non-parametric option ideal for designs with large stone arrays. This feature reduces file size while maintaining precision and integrates smoothly with tools like Gems Placer.
  • Performance Boost: Delivers faster file loading, smoother copy/paste operations, and overall performance enhancements that improve efficiency across daily tasks.
Additional updates include
  • Improved weight accuracy for the Mirror Gems tool
  • Enhanced toggle behavior for Bezel Chamfer
  • Persistent layer preferences across sessions
  • Fixes to Comfort Fit functionality

“We're thrilled to announce this update, with two more still to come in 2025," says Alex Stuller, Executive Director of Gemvision. "As the landscape of jewelry design continues to evolve, MatrixGold empowers jewelers with the tools they need to push the boundaries of innovation. We're proud to be part of this vibrant community and excited to keep delivering the industry's leading software.”

So Table by So Concrete

So Table is the result of an experimental approach using a new 3D concrete printing technology called Selective Paste Intrusion (SPI). Jonáš Kolařík, computational designer at So Concrete, explains that the goal was to create a structure that is spatially rigid yet visually lightweight, taking full advantage of the unique possibilities offered by this method compared to standard robotic concrete extrusion.

The base is inspired by natural structures, from plant lattices to trabecular bone. As it rises, it branches into finer and finer elements that support a tempered glass tabletop. The form is fully parametric and can be easily adapted to different sizes and formats.

Everything is procedurally generated in Grasshopper; the boundary is populated with points in gradual density, which are then connected and go through several steps of automated and manual optimization. The final geometry used for 3D printing is generated using the MultiPipe component, which creates closed SubD geometry with smooth connections and variable thickness.

Rhino/ Grasshopper online workshop for structural engineers, June 30- July 2 (McNeel Europe)

Rhino/ Grasshopper for structural engineers
Online Workshop
June 30- July 2, 2025
10 AM-5 PM CEST (Barcelona)
Hosted on Zoom by McNeel Europe

Structural engineering focuses on analyzing given geometries to calculate, optimize, or aesthetically refine structures, ensuring they can stand without failure while fulfilling the designer’s intentions. Long before the advent of CAD software, engineers mathematically defined material properties, loads, and support conditions in accordance with design codes, verifying their calculations through physical model experiments. In architectural design, early parametric approaches were introduced by pioneers such as Antoni Gaudí and have since evolved into contemporary practices, where architects and engineers use tools like Rhino and Grasshopper. These tools are now widely integrated with structural engineering software such as SOFiSTiK, Tekla, Dlubal, SCIA, and Karamba3D, bridging design, analysis, and documentation workflows. This integration enables seamless data exchange across BIM platforms and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration throughout all project phases.

The workshop is taught by Junghwo Park, Head of innovation and technology center in Virtual Design and Construction at Umdasch Group Ventures and certified BIM trainer by buildingSMART Austria, and is designed for structural engineers who want to learn how to use Rhino and Grasshopper for parametric BIM engineering.

Upon completion of this course, participants will...

  • Gain a foundational understanding of how to model and document structural engineering projects in Rhino, including templates, drawings, hatching, graphics, and model coordination.
  • Learn the principles of parametric engineering using Grasshopper.
  • Explore essential Grasshopper tips and tricks to enhance daily practice in structural design workflows.
  • Understand seamless data interoperability for BIM workflows using Rhino.Inside.Revit and Speckle.

Course requirements: This course is intended for structural engineers, drafters, and modelers who have no prior experience with Rhino and Grasshopper. Software requirement: Rhino 8

Online course fees for each course: EUR 395 (+VAT); full-time students and university teachers get a 50% discount (proof of status required). Please note that we will confirm your seat after your payment has cleared.

Maximum number of participants for each course: 25. If there is no quorum, the course will be canceled 15 days before.
