In this sense, designing the future entails, first and foremost, designing the body that will live in that future. Challenges inevitably arise and demand innovators and pioneers to overcome them; new tools and technologies are required to materialize the answer; limits and boundaries will be crossed, and the equilibrium will change. In this journey, the compass will be a scalable notion of the human condition. Housing, transit systems, how one moves around in the city, and the whole structure of the city itself are essential aspects one must consider when designing for this new reality.
By changing the unit the whole world is built around, the human body, we are no longer concerned with just designing parts of the world we live in. We are designing the whole world we live in. It’s not a mere design process; it’s cosmogony.

The overall finite element model and the importance of Open BIM
Take part in Sofistik's upcoming webinar in collaboration with Werner Sobek AG. Matteo Brunetti of Werner Sobek AG will present one of their most ambitious projects--Kuwait International Airport.
Kuwait's international airport will be expanded in 2022 by a new terminal building (Terminal 2) based on a design by Foster + Partners. Despite an edge length of 1.2 km and a roof area of more than 320,000 m², the building was planned without expansion joints. The main structure consists of curved pre-stressed concrete parts with a maximum span of 145m. Overall, the size of the building, the complex interaction between the various components, and the innovative systems render this project an extraordinary one.
Matteo Brunetti will give you an overview of the demanding project focusing on the overall finite element model. Using Grasshopper and the SOFiSTiK Rhinoceros Interface, a seamless Open BIM workflow was implemented and formed an essential part of the project.

xNURBS Rhino plugin API Package (C, RhinoCommon, Rhinoscript and Grasshopper)
xNURBS announces the availability of API Package. Users can now run xNURBS inside the code they develop or run xNURBS without showing the xNURBS UI. The API package includes the C/C++ APIs and the .NET APIs (i.e., RhinoCommon, Rhino.Python, Rhinoscript, and Grasshopper). The APIs are a subset of the fully-fledged APIs from XN Kernel.
The API package is freely available to customers with a xNURBS Rhino plugin license key.
Key features of xNURBS:
- Unlimited capacities for solving NURBS: Its optimization algorithm can solve virtually any NURBS surface in a matter of milliseconds (regardless of how complex the constraints are).
- High-quality surfaces: For a given set of constraints, xNURBS’ optimization algorithm uses an energy-minimization method to generate the smoothest NURBS surface among all possible solutions. The generated surface quality is outstanding.

Enscape 3.1 with NVIDIA DLSS support and a new material library
Enscape, a 3D real-time rendering and virtual reality plugin for Rhino, is now available with new features that enable 3D renderings to be quicker and easier and provide fully immersive experiences for designers and their clients.
New Material Library
Designers can choose from over 200 predefined high-quality materials, such as wood, fabric, brick, and tile. These materials can also be imported into the Enscape Material Editor, where various elements can be edited to get the look and feel desired for projects.
New Panorama Gallery
It is easy to share and group multiple 360 panorama images simultaneously, entirely through the web browser, to create a personalized experience when presenting designs. Clients can navigate a project from a web link or even a QR code and visualize multiple rooms or compare different design options.
NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) Support
Users can now enjoy improved real-time performance of walkthroughs and higher frame rates with much lower GPU requirements. The deep learning-based upscaling technique renders internally at a lower resolution but outputs a clean and sharp high-resolution image for high-quality videos and high-performance virtual reality walkthroughs. Two Grasshopper Level 1 and Level 2 online courses in October 2021 (hosted by McNeel Europe)

New Python for Grasshopper video course (by Fabian Eidner)
Concrete columns, ceramic vases, or recyclable formworks are only a few examples of the application of Additive Manufacturing Techniques (3D printing). The challenge in their manufacture lies in the automated digital design process and the generation of a continuous Printing Path (Slicing).
This course provides an insight into the basic mechanics of Python Scripting within the Grasshopper environment, allowing you to create tailored components for the design, analysis, and export of various expressive cylindric shapes.
To explore the aesthetic potential of 3D printing we dive into the influence of trigonometric functions as a design driver for corrugating-interfering surface patterns.
In four hours of video lessons, you will apply the Python Syntax from the Beginner to Intermediate Level. With a special focus on object-oriented scripting (Classes) the final script can create a multitude of one-of-a-kind shapes within fractions of a second, visualizing their data and eventually exporting their G-Code for a potential fabrication.
