Forward Design Office in Pasadena, California recently held an introductory Grasshopper workshop. It was such a success that they have asked Andrew Payne to return and conduct a one-day Advanced Grasshopper workshop.
Date: Friday, June 12
Hours: 9:30am-5:30pm
Location: Forward Design Office
Cost: US$250.00
This class will build upon the techniques explored during the first workshop and will require a basic knowledge of the software. This class will begin to address how Grasshopper can be used as an integral part of the entire building design and fabrication process. Attendees will work on a series of examples that will demonstrate how they can create parametric models that can compliment a number of different modes of fabrication (i.e. CNC mill, laser cutter, area calculations, panel systems, formatting information for custom spreadsheets, etc). If you are interested in registering for this workshop, please contact Jeffrey Kim.
This workshop is open to professionals and students; laptops required.
digital matters is an international and interdisciplinary symposium about digital architecture taking place on 26th June 2009 in Trier, Germany, organized by Prof. Holger Hoffmann, Prof. Franz Kluge, Prof. Klaus Klever and Prof. Hartmut Eckhardt from the FH Trier - Fachbereich Gestaltung.
Speakers include Johan Bettum (Städelschule Frankfurt am Main), Georg Franck (TU Wien, iemar), Achim Menges (Universität Stuttgart), Tobias Bonwetsch (Gramazio & Kohler, ETH Zürich), Tobias Wallisser (L-A-V-A, Akademie für Bildende Kunst Stuttgart), Daniel Bosia (Arup AGU, London), Oliver Tessmann (Bollinger + Grohmann, Frankfurt am Main), Harald Kloft (OSD, TU Kaiserslautern), Arnold Walz (design to production, Stuttgart) and Martin Josst (Delugan Meissl Associated Architects).
GT2P is a couple of young Chilean architects with a parametric design and digital fabrication studio. Their interesting furniture, lamps, and architecture are completely designed with Rhino and Grasshopper. Their products are produced by CNC routers. Their Voromix lamp was recently exhibited in Milan Design Week '09.
Buro Happold is continually developing new technology to ensure delivery of innovative solutions to complex engineering problems. SMART, a team of consultants with strong analytical capabilities, has been instrumental in enabling this. The team's services include structural, crowd flow and numerical solutions, while their expertise in numerical modeling has resulted in the development of several in-house software packages.
RhinoMembrane is a powerful plug-in for tensile structures and minimal surfaces.
Developed by Gerry D'Anza and Johannes Linhard with theory support from Prof. Bletzinger, RhinoMembrane is a application with one of the most powerful form-finding strategies available today. Using a FEA (Finite Element Analysis) model it is able to relax any mesh into a stressed surface in equilibrium with positive stress fields only.
