xNURBS Rhino plugin V5.113 released

xNURBS announces the availability of Version 5.113, and V4/V5 customers can get a free upgrade to V5.113. V5.113 includes several enhancements. The most important improvement is that V5.113 significantly reduces the deviation, and for some models, the deviation achieved by V5.113 can be easily ten times smaller than the previous versions. The following is a short answer to Why xNURBS?.

Key features of xNURBS:

  • Unlimited capacities for solving NURBS: Its optimization algorithm can solve virtually any NURBS surface in a matter of milliseconds (regardless of how complex the constraints are.).

  • High-quality surfaces: For a given set of constraints, xNURBS’ optimization algorithm uses an energy-minimization method to generate the smoothest NURBS surface among all possible solutions. The generated surface quality is outstanding.

  • xNURBS is one super powerful NURBS tool that virtually fixes all surfacing issues for existing CAD software.

  • Easy-to-use: It uses a straightforward UI for all kinds of NURBS modeling.

  • Super robust: xNURBS is rock solid and works flawlessly.

  • Native CAD surfaces: xNURBS is based on NURBS, i.e., the native CAD surfaces, which can be directly used for CAD modeling operations without any geometry translation.

Work with VisualARQ Grasshopper styles in Revit with Rhino.Inside

This video (tutorial) shows how to work with the VisualARQ Grasshopper styles (VisualARQ objects driven by Grasshopper definitions) in Revit running VisualARQ inside Revit.

This connection lets you work with the VisualARQ parametric objects directly in Revit, which are generated as Revit’s Furniture object types.

This workflow is possible with the VisualARQ Grasshopper components, which let you retrieve the geometry and data of VisualARQ objects and connect them with the Revit components (available in Grasshopper with the Rhino.Inside tool), and thus regenerate all geometry and data live in Revit, as native Revit Furniture object types.

The Obsidian Rain pavilion at the Biennale in Venice | 17th International Architecture Exhibition

The Obsidian Rain pavilion is one of the main attractions of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, which was opened to the public on May 22nd.

In this opportunity, the exhibition deals with the theme How will we live together?, which brings many interesting and multidisciplinary collaborations.

The Obsidian Rain pavilion is a non-standard project designed by Cave_Bureau, using a combination of technologies: FEM structural analysis, Parametric Design, and Augmented Reality. The result is simply amazing, and it's located at the entrance of Biennale Gardens.

Inside the installation, the cave ceiling is created by 1686 Obsidian stones hung on steel ropes with different lengths. The scope is to recreate the entrance of the cave that was laser scanned.

Grasshopper was one of the main tools needed to make this project happen:

"The interoperability between the structural analysis software (RFEM) and the algorithmic modeling software (Rhino + Grasshopper) was crucial. This synergy allowed the efficient management of a large amount of data through an algorithm that updated the FEM model during the various modifications and made it possible to extract the lengths (all different) of the 1686 cables sorted by rows".
