Notilus Composite for Rhino 8 released

Notilus Software has released Notilus Composite, a composite structure plugin for Rhino 8 built for naval architects and boatyards working on FRP vessels.

Notilus Composite keeps the laminate definition on the Rhino geometry itself. Assign a laminate to a surface, run a stiffener along a curve, and weight, centre of gravity, material take-off and workshop documentation all come from the same model — and update when the design changes.

Key features:

- Material and laminate library, built ply by ply, with cured thickness and areal weight per ISO 12215-5 Annex C

- Laminated top-hat and custom stiffeners with web and crown laminates

- Panel and stiffener weights with LCG, TCG and VCG

- Bill of materials by reinforcement and core, in m² and kg

- Colour-mapped laminate schedule, lamination callouts and 2D taping details

- Works directly with Notilus Scantling for ISO 12215-5 checks of the same laminates

Notilus Composite works with Rhino 8 for Windows. A 15-day evaluation licence is available.

Notilus Scantling for Rhino 8 released

Notilus Software has released Notilus Scantling, a structural rule-check tool for naval architects and shipyards, delivered as a Rhino 8 plugin and a standalone desktop application.

Structural elements are not typed in; they are selected in the model. Position, panel sides, deadrise, plate thickness and profile dimensions are measured from the Rhino objects, and results are shown back on the geometry. Change the hull, re-read the model, and the check follows the boat.

Key features:

- Elements defined from Rhino geometry, one per selected object

- Design loads derived automatically from vessel particulars

- Plates, stiffeners, girders and pillars checked against as-built scantlings

- Utilisation colours and design pressures shown on the model

- Traceable report with the rule clause behind every requirement

- Supported rules: DNV-RU-HSLC Pt.3, RINA RES31, ISO 12215-5 (steel, aluminium and FRP) and ISO 11812

- Works directly with Notilus Composite: laminates and stiffeners are read from the same library, with no re-entry

Notilus Scantling works with Rhino 8 for Windows.

food4Rhino webinar: Arch-e – AI Decision Intelligence for Rhino and the AEC Industry (October 15, 2026, at 4 PM CEST)

October 15, 2026, at 4 PM CEST

What if AI could do more than generate content or answer questions? What if it could actually help architects and engineers make better design decisions?

Join TwinMaster and Rhino for an introduction to Arch-e, TwinMaster’s AI-powered decision intelligence platform for architecture, engineering, and construction.

Arch-e works with the tools and project data AEC teams already use, transforming building information into an intelligent environment where professionals can ask complex questions, explore alternatives, and reason across the interconnected decisions that shape a project.

During this webinar, we’ll demonstrate how Arch-e helps teams evaluate competing objectives such as cost, carbon, energy performance, daylight, compliance, constructability, and other design criteria simultaneously, rather than analyzing each in isolation, and then push the optimized results right back into their Rhino models.

We’ll also explore how Arch-e works with Rhino, how TwinMaster’s multi-agent AI and semantic digital twin technology support decision-making across disciplines and project phases, and why we believe the next evolution of AI in AEC is not simply about generating more designs but about helping professionals understand which decisions to make, and why.

Attendees will see Arch-e in action and learn how TwinMaster is building a vendor-neutral intelligence layer across the AEC software ecosystem.

Speakers:

Introducing Rhino Studio Series: Architecture

Rhino Studio Series: Architecture is a free, multi-season YouTube curriculum from McNeel North America that teaches architectural design thinking and Rhino proficiency together. Rather than touring software features, the series follows studio logic: Start with conventions, standards, and design reasoning—then use Rhino to develop and communicate the work.

Designed for students, educators, and emerging architectural designers, the series treats architecture as a sequence of informed decisions. Each season includes six episodes, a continuity project, and downloadable Student and Educator Toolkits that can support studio teaching, technical coursework, or independent learning.

Season 1: Architectural Drawing

Season 1 begins with a hand sketch of an accessory dwelling unit and develops it into a complete, coherent 2D drawing set ready to print. The work establishes a foundation in representation, drafting standards, graphic hierarchy, and clear documentation—essential skills for any architectural workflow.

The project is a 1,000+ sq ft ADU, capped at 100 sq m, which will evolve through the planned seasons—from initial drawing and massing through later stages of architectural development and fabrication.

The Episode Sequence

Work through the six episodes in order:
  • Episode 1 — Drawing Standards & Sketch Import: Turn a hand sketch into a scaled, layered Rhino file.
  • Episode 2 — Drafting Site & Context: Establish orientation, boundaries, and a readable site plan.
  • Episode 3 — Drafting a Floor Plan: Develop the horizontal cut, spatial organization, and walls with real thickness.
  • Episode 4 — Drafting Elevations: Use lineweight, proportion, rhythm, and depth to communicate the building’s vertical faces.
  • Episode 5 — Drafting Sections: Draw the vertical cut to explain height, light, material, and spatial experience.
  • Episode 6 — Layouts & Annotations: Build sheets, add builder-oriented dimensions, and export a clean PDF drawing set.
Built for Learning and Teaching

The season toolkit includes a guide, episode guides, and templates in feet, inches, meters, and millimeters, with established drawing standards.

The core workflow is plugin-free and supports both Imperial and metric users. For educators, publicly available course plans, assessment rubrics, and critique guides make it straightforward to incorporate the season into a syllabus.
