Contorted Compositions V2.0 Webinar by DesignMorphine

Contorted Compositions V2.0 intends to introduce a set of form-finding methods based on the Minimal Surface concept and its combination with Polygon Modeling methods with Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, and 3ds Max.

Simulation of Forces and Data Management tools in both 3Ds Max and Grasshopper are another part of this teaching webinar. Through the combination of modeling tools in both software, you can attain the necessary freedom in customizing mesh typology and creating various forms based on the same workflow. Participants will learn to create mathematically curved geometries such as minimal surfaces and how these geometries can smoothly connect together to form overall larger continuous gestures. Using mathematics to shape geometry ensures there are no curvature defects that typically occur in manual modeling strategies. This ensures smooth and accurate topological flow between design components. The entire process will be explained clearly throughout the webinar in a practicable framework, and participants will be able to practice and follow the instructions. By the end of the webinar, we will use the Corona rendering engine in 3ds Max to create conceptual renders.

Fluidic Expressions V1.0 Webinar by DesignMorphine

Fluidic Expressions V1.0 Webinar
November 6, 2022, from 3 PM to 8 PM UTC

Fluidic Expressions V1.0 will focus on presenting the fully manifested image of fluidity, its forms, and logic through Rhinoceros SubD's. The course will question whether fluidity is a material and spatial practice. How does fluidity form relations between spatial, social, material, and experiential forms? Viewing the fields of urbanism, architecture, and design as inherently interrelated with the fluid sensibility of the design impacting our perception of space will be explored and modeled with SubDs. Students will begin by learning the basics of SubD in Rhino, how to use them and how they differ from mesh and Nurbs topologies. From there, we will use SubD to sculpt and manipulate form into beautiful fluid-flowing architectures. Ideas about smooth connectivity, weighted gradient form manipulation, continuity of curvature, and model cleanliness will be explored. SubD is the surface representation of a spline in which they represent actual curvature, unlike mesh which approximates curvature. Nurbs also represent curvature; however, they can be difficult to manipulate into complex freeform objects. SubD provides the real curvature advantages of Nurbs paired with the manipulation ease of a mesh.

Rhino User Webinar: NAAR - Architectural Nature - Natural Architecture, July 27 at 4 PM CEST

Why did Galileo Galilei say that "nature is written in the language of mathematics"?

In this webinar edition, Agustina Alaines will show us her successful use of Rhino and Grasshopper from a different architectonical point of view. What is the logic of natural systems, and can we discover and reproduce their rules according to numerical relationships and geometric patterns? These processes of exploration and creation can be carried out by analog or digital methods; however, computers help us compute vast amounts of information (inputs) to develop artificial logics or systems that, like nature, can produce infinite results (outputs).

Speaker: Agustina Alaines is an Argentine-Spanish architect, designer, and academic. Born in Buenos Aires, she graduated as an architect from the University of Buenos Aires (FADU, UBA) and specialized in Parametric Design (University of Palermo). After receiving a full scholarship, she moved to Los Angeles (USA) to study the Master of Science in Architectural Technologies at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI_Arc), where she graduated with honors.

She has extensive academic experience as the head of practical work of architectural design projects at the FADU, UBA (Buenos Aires), professor of speculative architecture and experimental urbanism at SCI_Arc (Los Angeles), of Computational Thinking at the Universidad de Los Andes (Bogota) and of the final project of the Design degree at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (Buenos Aires).

After gaining experience in renowned studios in Argentina and the United States, where she worked as Design Director and Project Manager, Agustina recently founded NAAR: her speculative architecture studio investigating the relationship between ARtificial NATURE and NAtural ARchitecture. NAAR develops responsive systems at the intersection of physical and virtual space, graphic and industrial design, science, technology, and art.

Rhino User Webinar
Swiftlet - Web APIs in Grasshopper (by Sergey Pigach)
June 16 at 4 PM CEST

In this webinar, we will look at Swiftlet. This Grasshopper plugin lets you make web requests directly from your GH definition. Using web services and external APIs opens up unique opportunities for data scraping, cloud computing, and live data processing directly within your favorite modeling software. As a fun example of fetching geospatial information from an online resource, we will use Google Maps API to get real-time driving directions between two points inside a Rhino model of New York City. You will also learn how Swiftlet has been used to integrate machine learning models into a cloud compute workflow.

Sergey Pigach is an Associate Applications Developer at CORE Studio | Thornton Tomasetti. Sergey’s work builds on his architectural training by bridging the domains of technology and design, driving him to develop computational tools for architects, designers, and engineers. Since joining CORE Studio, he has worked on desktop and web-based projects, including Swarm, a cloud compute solution for Grasshopper; ShapeDiver, a desktop client integration following a merger; and—most recently—Cortex, CORE Studio’s new ML platform.

Rhino webinar: All Engineers Should Utilise the Power of Grasshopper! - May 25 at 4 PM CEST

Rhino webinar: All Engineers Should Utilise the Power of Grasshopper!

May 25 at 4 PM CEST

Parametric design is identified with crazy shapes, abstract geometries, and futuristic design. Mainly thanks to architects who were in the front of applying and taking full advantage of the new design approach in the AEC industry. However, parametric design has much more to offer. Thanks to the possibility of automatization, design can be performed much faster and be more ''tolerant'' of changes. Krzysztof's presentation focuses on the practical use of Grasshopper in different engineering disciplines—bridges, buildings, roads, energy, geotechnics, and the environment.

This webinar will show that all engineers can change the way of working and learn Grasshopper in a practical and fun way!

Speaker: Krzysztof Wojslaw is a bridge engineer that works with applying computational design in different disciplines in the AEC industry. He is co-founder of a BIMCorner.com blog and newsletter learngrasshopper.com. Currently, he is working on a Grasshopper learning platform where all engineers can start with parametric design. Instead of ''learn by watching'' the platform will be built on the rule ''learn by doing'' where students need to solve real-work challenges.
