Gimbal for a drone
Now, Rhino 5 for Mac is used to design carbon composite gimbals for aerial photography. For those not familiar with drones, a gimbal is the mechanism that keeps the camera horizontal in a moving vessel, such as a drone.
Jacek Witalinski learned Rhino and designed his prototype in two weeks from start to finish, with the aid of a few tutorials. "It was my first drawing using this excellent tool."
See his project at DIY Drones ...

Maria Chiara Virgili, Maxwell Render Xpert
In her
article on the Maxwell Render blog, Rhino trainer, Maria Chiara Virgili, explains how she uses Rhino and
Maxwell Render to recreate the interiors of a chain of pizzerias in
Italy.
When asked why she uses Maxwell, she says, “Maxwell is the most realistic render machine I’ve ever used, the organization is simple and I don’t have to waste too much time guessing values—it is all very self-explanatory. It’s not difficult to create a material from scratch or specific textures, and the same goes for the lights, which are truly exceptional…The customers love to see projects in the most realistic, virtual way as with Maxwell, frequently confusing them with real photo shots. It is amazing to see their surprise when they discover that these are not photo shots!!”. Read here for the complete story...

Rhino Meeting 2014
On October 29-31 some of the main actors of the Rhino development, distribution, and training scenes gathered together in Castelldefels, Barcelona, (Spain) to learn and share their last experiences with Rhino.
The event, sponsored by 3Dconnexion, Roland and Wacom, consisted of a series of conferences and networking sessions that brought inspiration and knowledge to an audience of over 200 participants coming from 35 different countries. Some of the topics covered during the conferences included the last developments at McNeel (Rhino 5 for Mac, Grasshopper, food4Rhino, Kangaroo, Developer Tools, Training and Support, RhinoFabStudio), as well as sessions that were an open discussion to comment on the latest technologies in the fields of Design, AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction), and Digital Fabrication.
The keynote speakers at the event were kind enough to share some outstanding projects done in Rhino that challenged the software limits thanks to the authors' creativity. These were:
- Francis Aish (Foster & Partners)
- Andrés de Mesa (La Sagrada Familia)
- Hanno Stehling (designtoproduction)
- Kristian Wenstøp and Fredrik Wenstøp (Pivot Produkt Design)
- Luis Fraguada (BAD), Elizabeth Fraguada (jorge & esther)
- Menno Deij-van Rijswijk (MARIN)
- Daniel Piker (Kangaroo)
Partners that have developed a hardware or software product that adds substantial functionality to Rhino also had a side room to show their products. Exhibitors were Asuni CAD, Calgary Scientific, Chaos Group, CIMsystem, CL3VER, DATAKIT, Evolute GmbH, HAL Robot Programming & Control, MachineWorks Ltd, madCAM AB, MecSoft Corporation, Next Limit, Random Control, RhinoPiping, RhinoTerrain, Robots.IO, TDM Solutions, and Virtual Build Technologies.
Everyone was excited to learn more about the size and diversity of the Rhino community—trading many stories about users, projects, and applications from around the world.
