BREATHING PROTOTYPES Workshop, Bucarest

Parametrica [Digi Fab School] invites you to BREATHING PROTOTYPES Workshop (19-25 February 2013) in Bucarest (Romania) to participate in the digital design build workshop, seeking to create an inventive collaborative environment. The workshop is part of a series of PARAMETRICA events aimed in promoting and exploring the world of parametric design.

The workshop is aimed at: students, postgraduates, architects, interior, product and urban designers, engineers, anybody interested.

Level:
  • Rhino (level 1)
  • Grasshopper (level 1)
  • Arduino (Introductory)

Workshop concept:
Over the course of six days, participants will generate, fabricate, and assemble inflatable prototypes which incorporate simple ambient sensory feedback to actuate various states of inflation. Force driven dynamic modeling will be utilized to simulate material behavior and physical computing will be implemented in order to create a soft, sentient spatial experience.

Objectives:
The primary objectives are to explore and expand on the ongoing research in architectural technology, dealing with fabric forms that can be transformed into inflatable structures, controlled by physical computing.

The workshop team:

  • Key lecturer: Theo Spyropoulos (UK)
  • Lecturer: Maite Bravo [ES]
  • Workshop main tutor: Luis Fraguada [ES]
  • Workshop assistants: Arian Hakimi Nejad [IR], Carlo Caltabiano [IT]
  • Workshop coordinator: Diana Nitreanu (RO)

Equipment: Each participant must provide their own laptop with the following software installed:

  • Rhinoceros 5
  • Grasshopper (Latest Version)
  • Arduino

Machines to work on:
  • Laser cutter - small laser for prototyping
  • Big laser cutter for final production
  • Sewing machines
  • Gromet press
