Welcome to the Neon Project!
Today we're releasing the first beta version of Neon for
Rhino, a fully raytraced viewport plugin for Rhino 5.
Neon adds a new viewport mode called Raytraced
(Neon)—there's almost no other UI—it just works.
Neon supports all Rhino 5 rendering features including the sun, skylight, ground plane, standard materials, environments, and
most procedural textures.
Neon is a fully working viewport mode. You can edit your model just like any other
mode and Neon keeps up. It supports
in-command previews (like BlendSrf), realtime dragging, and so on.
In addition, Neon supports many Brazil settings if Brazil
2.0 SR2 Beta is installed on your computer.
This includes most Brazil materials, the GI environment, most Luma
server settings, Depth of Field - along with a raft of other bits and
pieces. More is coming soon!
Neon works best on powerful hardware, but it's usable on
most modern mid-range computers, even laptops.
It doesn't require a powerful video card. We recommend 64-bit Rhino 5 with at least
4Gb of RAM and an I7 processor, preferably Sandybridge.
Windows Vista or Windows 7 is required. It does not work on Rhino 4.
Neon is available from http://v5.rhino3d.com/groups/neon

I like it! :) Good combination with Brazil! Thanks.
I've down loaded installed and re-installed 3 times in the last hour, it keeps telling me that their is either a missing DLL or it failed to load the plug in... LMK when you get it fixed, sounds like a great tool.

I'm itching to try the Neon viewport (can't on 32bitXP)and wondering if anyone can help specify a machine optimised to run this, probably with Brazil or VRay set as the current renderer.
I've heard there is no available benefit from any of the fancy new tesla cards or GPU-acceleration, as Neon is all CPU based (is this correct?), so the question is really about choosing between dual-processor Xeon, or i7 (9?)-based systems.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
CY
I have also been trying to load Neon 1.0 for Rhino 5 to no avail. I keep getting an initialization failed message.
I have also tried uninstalling and reloading, dragging and dropping the plug-in into the Rhino window.

Even after uninstalling and reloading, using plug in manager and dragging plug-in into the window.
Hi all,
Neon is CPU based but can use specific PCI-E acceleration cards made by Caustic Graphics. If you are still having trouble installing Neon, Please make sure you have a supported OS and ideally a processor model mentioned in the plugin description. Also make sure that you are using Rhino 5 as Neon wasn't made for Rhino 4. Please email tech@mcneel.com or post questions to the support forum for the fastest response to any other questions you may have.
Thanks,
Brian J.

I don't know how I got an missing msvcr71.dll object error. Firstly, it worked fine, but then an issue became. Glad that it is not that hard to resolve. I've just downloaded a new .dll file at http://fix4dll.com/d3dcompiler_43_dll and so far it works fine.
