What is the Rose Pavilion? It's an architectural pavilion, designed for the Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort for the XXII Winter Olympic Games coming in 2014. The Rose Pavilion was designed by Dimitry Demin with parametric techniques in Rhino and Grasshopper.
The pavilion is inspired by the natural beauty of Rosaceae Rosa canina, a plant from the dog-rose family. The roses have a pentagonal symmetry and double curvature in their petals -- features that have been translated into a beautiful architectural form. The final architectural form came from an analysis of material properties, precise engineering calculations, and the local climate conditions.
The video shows how folded cards, laser cutting and Grasshopper modeling are used to develop folded metal structural systems to achieve the architect's vision.
