Project: Design and Produce a Production Quality Chair

Sara Jane Rin's rocking chair, Ila
This semester third-year Industrial Design students at NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology) designed and built chairs, following the constraints outlined by their instructor, Brook Atwood. The work included mock-ups, material studies, upholstering, welding, and even building their own jibs, clamps, and molds -- whatever it took to design, model, and fabricate the chairs.

The other tool they used? Rhino!

Four students, Sara Jane Rin, Benjamin Mui, Kyle Gulliford, and Avrami Rakovsky were shown at the 2011 ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair). Other students also used Rhino exclusively for their designs: Philip Caleja, Samantha Tartaro, Darshan Altar, and Alex Nizzardo.
